Creating New Connections

Manually in Windows 9x-2000

Step 1 - Opening the Network Connection Wizard

There are a number of ways to access the Network Connection Wizard. One of the most common is through the Start Menu . Follow the instructions below:

  • Click the Start button (bottom left).
  • Click on Settings in the list (a menu will open to the right).
  • Click on Network and Dial-up Connections.
  • Double-click on the Make New Connection icon.

The Network Connection Wizard will now open.

Step 2 - The Welcome Screen

You should now see the Welcome to the Network Connection Wizard window. Click Next to continue with the setup, or Cancel to quit now (the cancel button is available through-out the entire setup process).

Step 3 - Network Connection Type

Click on the circle beside the message Dial-up to the Internet; a dot should appear inside the circle. Click Next.

Step 4 - Getting Ready

Click on the circle beside the message I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN); a dot should appear inside the circle. Click Next.

Step 5 - Setting up your Internet Connection

Click on the circle beside the message I connect through a phone line and a modem; a dot should appear inside the circle. Click Next.

Step 6 - Phone Number to Dial

We offer many local access numbers all across North America. Enter an access number we offer in your local area. If you have yet to select an access number, select a new access number from the access numbers page visit our access numbers help page.

Step 7 - Internet Account Logon Information

Enter the username and password you will connect to the internet with. You selected these during signup. Click Next.

Step 8 - Connection Name

Enter a name for this connection in the space provided. You can name the connection anything you wish. Click Next.

Step 9 - Set up Your Internet Mail Account

Since this tutorial is based primarly on configuring your internet connection, when asked "Do you want to set up an Internet mail account now?", Click on the circle beside No; a dot should appear inside the circle. Click Next.

Step 10 - Completing the Internet Connection Wizard

You have now completed the Internet Connection Wizard. Click Finish.
